Kitchen has Landed - Its Install Time!

The SplashBack was installed over the weekend, we would have loved to go Glass but the budget didnt allow so we optioned for a 300x600 White Tile which will look great once the grout is installed and everything else is sealed. The tiles are a very flat looking with a very faint pin stripe texture that is hard to see unless your up close. The colour, well White to keep the balance there and i had thoughts of a colour but didnt want to risk it clashing with other parts of the house. Overall the tiler was a good friend and only charged us $400 for the entire job - We are happy with the result, just cant wait for the grout and silcon to finish it all off.

You can see the Transformation taking place in the kitchen and the Lounge room to be done next.... hence i have only done half the ceiling due to time, space and $$$ Once i get some more funds in a months time, ill seal the kitchen off so its still functional for cooking etc and dinner space, and finish the lounge to suit the kitchen..... 7 weeks to do the kitchen and hopfully half the time to do the lounge!!! But overall tonight we got lights power and a bit of Dishwashing action..... Yet to come is Fridge, hopefull this week... and then some tidy up like skirt boards, new doors etc...

Hey All,

Day 2 of Kitchen install and almost complete, well complete from the installer but we have the bulkhead to paint, get all appliances connected and choose the splash back and a bit of fine touches here and there....

Also today i received the Wood Venetians and we are happy with the choice that had arrived...... Rather easy to install and very fast delivery ordered them on Tuesday and arrived Friday today - if your keen or need super service check out these guys located in australia:

Anyways enjoy the recent pics
Frankie & Allie =)

Today was the first day the Installation took place, so far so good..... WOW towards bigger bench space for us considerring it was so tiny and old fashion before, i guess all the hard work and savings is slowly paying itself off. Tomorrow the kitchen installer comes back to add the finishing touches, then we have to select our splash back, install appliances etc... stil bit more to go but its the exciting part!

Hey Great News, Today they dropped off the kitchen and tomorrow they start the install... stay tunued for more pics of the finished project =)

Electrical Re-Deirected - Pt 1

Since i work Clipsal Australia - Ill be using the Classy Modern look of the Saturn Range - The front lounge and kitchen lights will have the nice Ocean Mist with the LED feature and also the Ocean Mist Power Sockets for the Splashback - Nice touch to dress up the downstairs area.

Goodmoring Saturday, today's challenge was to re-direct the New wiring for new appliances once fitted when the kitchen goes in... Thanks to a great Family friend, we both completed stage one within a few hours.

The rest of the day was more Plastering, and as you can see in the photo - the 2 x air vents at the top on the window side have been filled to eliminate boog boogies "Spiders of the outside world" LOL Also today we removed the exhaust fan and thank god that has visited the bin, because there was enough grease and oil to run a fish and chip shop!!!!

Tomorrow i shall give the walls another rub down and hopefully from the plastering i did today it will be ready for primer in a weeks time!

Till then enjoy!

False Ceiling - Stage 1

Bit of Patching going on where the old Tilled splash back went, here i wont be too fussy as the new splash back will hide most imperfections!!! Once kitchen is installed choosing the splash back will be a challenge but i have a rough idea on what we both want. Lets just say "White on White" is looking very popular.

Where the exposed side pillars, now filled with plaster, its taking shape as if it was meant to be. Just need a bit more love and then ready for a coat of primer and paint!

The decision at first was to clean of the pop-corn style ceiling, but knowing that the slabs of concrete ceiling was not going to be even we decide to drop the ceiling by 35mm and introduce a new ceiling of gyprock. The cornice used will be Shadow line by Gyprock Australia - going for a moder clean fresh look that will transform old technology into new of the future.

Closer view of the 70mm x 35mm x 3.8m pine batterns, not pad price from Bunnings only $10ea for 4.2meter lengths. As you can also see the ugly ceiling which is carried right through into the lounge. The lounge will be done after the kitchen has been complete.

Wide Open - The fun begins

The following day, we just cleaned all the rubble and got it ready for the next stage of plastering. The overal space has given the rooms a much more open space for living - Just what a small Townhouse needs!

Lucky for us we had some spare tiles left in the backyard when we moved in, I had some experience doing tiling for a company i used to work for as a web developer, but i too have a bit of handyman in my boots. I guess doing anywork i feel coffident will helps us both in the longterm in savings. The job was to cover the exposed hole from the centre pillar of the arche that we removed. I must say it come up better than i thought only took a few hours to clean and apply. Next part is to match the grout.

A differant Angle looking out from the kitchen room, more room for now... Once the kitchen Island gets installed the space will be filled. Lots to do but the fun has really begun.

Finally the Arches are long gone and the rooms now become one. Its really putting a smile on our faces as the Arches really did become headache for furniture placement.

Reno 1 - Kitchen Corner

Good 4 hours it took myself and my partner to know the berlin wall =) - Amongst all the rubble on the floor, its fully exposed now and the clean up begins....

The before shot of the Twin Arches, no longer is it an eye soar...

Kitchen fully removed and the patching and planing begin. Here i will need to knock a few holes for new Wall Socket Switches to Power, Dishwasher near the door, New Oven, New Stove, and Fridge near the Stove while the Pantry will be now closer to the right.

Last man standing, the most ugliest oven to date i seen, soon as we bought this place i knew it had to be gone.... Had to remove this last as i needed to plug up the Gas line before removal. A simple $3 fitting from my other home "Bunnings" helped solve the problem.

Now how does one enjoy a good meal cooked in this kitchen? Not long till i get revenge....
